The City
I have never published these New York pictures from 2017. Maybe because they are so personal and emotional to me. It was my dad's 60th birthday and travelling to the big apple was a once in a lifetime dream for him. So he shared this special experience with us – his kids. Seeing my daddy overwhelmed flourished my heart. And also for me it was a trip, which I am so thankful for. Without any disappointment and in a positive way, NYC was exactly what I have ever imagined. Inspired from all the films, books and TV-series I saw: Sitting in the Central Park with Carrie Bradshaw, drinking Starbucks Caramel Macchiato like Meg Ryan, eating real New York Cheesecake and seeing skyscrapers even if they were not as colorful as in James Rizzi's artworks. And then there was Ground Zero. On 9/11 2001 I was a kid, did not even know what the „Twin Towers" were and did not understand what happened. But as I saw the pictures on television of people falling out of the windows like newspapers... I saw them running for their lives, the big smoke behind them. I cried again and again. I will never forget what dad said to me: „This day will go down in history." And it did. Back to our trip in 2017. There were heavy storms on the day we wanted to visit the memorial of 9/11. It was hard to get there because there was so much rain. We made it to the museum and stayed the whole day. We stood in front of the zero ground, the empty hole, and the sky was crying. So was I. In disbelief, that all of it really happened to the people of New York. May they rest in peace forever. May God bless this city.
